Course Overview

Welcome to the course Developing Multiple Choice Questions: A Guide for Educators. This course is designed to help educators understand the principles, processes, and best practices involved in constructing quality multiple-choice questions (MCQs) for teaching, learning, and assessment purposes.

MCQs are commonly used in educational assessment because they are practical, efficient, and suitable for assessing a wide range of learning outcomes. However, developing effective MCQs requires careful planning, clear item writing, proper alignment with learning outcomes, and awareness of common item-writing errors.

Through this course, participants will learn how to design MCQs that are clear, fair, valid, reliable, and appropriate for different levels of learning. Participants will also be introduced to the use of a Table of Specification (TOS), item construction techniques, distractor development, and basic item review practices.
