Definition
“Platform” means microcredential.iium.edu.my and all its sub-domain *.microcredential.iium.edu.my
“You/Your” refers to you, the end user of the platform, Learners and Registrant
“Terms & Conditions” means these Terms and Conditions of Use and future amendments hereto.
“IIUM Content” means all content available on the Platform, including but not limited to all text, images, video, audio, data, software applications, logos, and publications accessible via the Platform developed or owned by IIUM.
“Third Party Content” means public and private and/or third-party data, applications or materials not developed or owned by IIUM.
“Content” means “IIUM Content” and “Third Party Content”.
“Learners” means the person who enrolled in a micro-credential modules either to obtain digital credentials or not to obtain digital credentials.
“Registrant” means the person who registered through micro-credential platform.
“Creators” means the micro-credential developers
“Instructors” means the micro-credential instructors, who perform delivery, activity and assessing learning artefacts.
“Users” means the micro-credential user such as employer, industry players, institution, social media or verified individuals.
“Provider” means institution which provides the Learners Portfolio Platform/Wallet and Micro Credential Platform.
“Issuer” means institution which control to whom they issue credentials, the achievement that the credential represents, and which credential options are available to the learner. Issuers can revoke credentials according to their institution’s policies.
“Learning Artefact” means a digital object (e.g., scanned document, images, pdf file, video) which the Learners have submitted to the instructor for assessment.
“Digital Credential” means a digital credential issued by an issuer once a learner
complete and competent in a stack of modules or a full programme module stack.
“Digital Badge” means a digital credential issued by an issuer once Learners complete and competent in a module
Acceptance of Terms and Conditions
By visiting the Platform, You are deemed to have accepted these Terms & Conditions governing the use of this site and Your access to the Content herein.
You acknowledge that IIUM reserves the right to revise these Terms & Conditions at any time. IIUM will post the latest version of these Terms & Conditions via the Platform. At all times, the latest version of these Terms & Conditions accessible via the Platform shall be binding and supersede any other version. You are responsible to view the latest version of the Terms and Conditions before using of the platform.
If You do not accept the Terms & Conditions, please discontinue Your use of the Platform immediately.
Use of the Platform
Your use of the Platform allows you to access the Content. You may print out copies of the Content for private and individual use only, but You may not remove any copyright, trademark or other proprietary notices forming any part of the Content.
You are solely responsible for the use of the Content and agree to fully indemnify IIUM against any claims, demands or damages arising out of Your use or misuse thereof.
You agree that you may not attempt to override or circumvent any of the usage or other rules embedded into the Platform.
You agree that Your use of the Platform and the Content or any part thereof will not infringe, breach or violate the legal rights of any other party.
IIUM expects that you will responsible and will abide by the Islamic and fundamental code of ethics while using the Platform.
Governing Law
By using this Platform, You agree that any claims arising out of or relating to these terms of use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Malaysia, without regards to conflict of laws provisions.
Intellectual Property & Proprietary Rights
IIUM gives You a personal, world-wide, non-assignable or non-exclusive license to You the Content as part of the Platform. The Platform has the sole purpose of enabling You to use and enjoy the benefit of the Content, in the manner permitted by these terms.
You must not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, redistribute, sell, decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, transmit, translate or otherwise deal with the Content. In essence, IIUM expects all registrants and learners to have a good moral compass and values by abiding to Islamic and globally acceptable code of practise and conduct when using other people’s work.
Third Party Content
IIUM does not in any way control or endorse the Third Party Content.
As such, IIUM shall not be responsible for the accuracy, completeness, legality, legitimacy or any other aspect of the files, data and information forming part of Third Party Content and IIUM is not in a position to ensure that You will be satisfied with the same or that it will meet Your specific requirements.
You are solely responsible for the use of Third Party Content and agree to fully indemnify IIUM against any claims, demands or damages arising out of Your use or misuse thereof.
Usage of IIUM Microcredential Platform
Availability
IIUM Micro Credential Platform learning environment is only available for registered Learners.
You could view all available modules in the catalogue within the online platform without restriction.
Micro Credential Platform will be accessible from the IIUM home page.
Enrolment
Learners are to enrol using the IIUM Micro Credential Platform.
Registration of IIUM Micro Credential Platform is required for any enrolment of the micro-credential module.
Payment, Refund and Penalty
Payment for micro-credential need to be made before any micro-credential module is to be made available to Learners.
Refund due to non-satisfaction of instructor or other reasons will be dealt with MCU on a case-to-case basis, subject to approval by MCC.
No payment will be required for module that is marked as ‘Sejahtera’, since the module is considered as a service to community.
Withdrawal
Learners could withdraw anytime from the micro-credential module. Based on the condition below.
Non-Term Based
No full refund is given for withdrawal after two (2) weeks of enrollment.
Time Based
No full refund is given after two (2) weeks of a new term start date.
Deferment
Micro-credential is a self-paced individualised learning with two different type of modules duration delivery method: non-term and term-based modules.
Non-Term Based
No deferment requirement is needed for non-term based micro-credentials.
Learners are allowed to take up until two years to complete a module. Learners are responsible to pace their own learning to ensure that they are able to complete the module within the maximum allowable period.
Term Based
Learners are allowed to defer a term-based module.
Learners are to submit a deferment request for approval by MCU. Once approved, Learners can enrol in any next available term. Learners are responsible to visit the Platform to identify the next available term for enrolment.
IIUM expects all learners to be committed to their learning and have a good time management. An administrative fee of 10% of the module fee is applied when Learners are enrolling on next available term for a deferred module.
No refund is given for any deferment of a module.
Registration
Registrant could register for the use of IIUM Micro Credential Platform any time, without the need to enrol into any of the courses. However, only Learners will be assigned relevant instructors if required.
There is a standard “Know Your Customer” requirement for any users that would like to register in the platform.
Closing of an Account
Learners can choose to close their micro-credential enrolment account at any time.
All personal information and the module taken will be deleted from the system upon closure of the online platform account
Learners could still see and manage their digital artefact and digital badge/credential in the Learners Portfolio Wallet/Platform.
Learners are given 30 days to request an account to be restored. IIUM have the right to close an account permanently if not request have been made.
IIUM have the right to close an account 7 years after Your last login.
Data Retention
All data pertaining to the learner’s module taken, activities etc. will be kept as long as the account is active.
IIUM to their best effort will ensure that all private information is in accordance with Malaysia Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
Use of Data
IIUM and its subsidiary are allowed to use the data as deemed fit to promote and communicate with Learners to enable them to have the best micro-credential module and lifelong learning experience that fits the Learners’ profile and requirements. Subject to approval by IIUM, Learners could request on how their data is being used by sending an email to “microcredential@iium.edu.my.
Issuance and Revocation of IIUM Digital Credential
Issuance of Digital Credential
Provider will verify that Learners have completed all the required Learners’ artefacts assessment for digital credential/badge issuing. Upon verification, list of names of Learner, the Learners’ artefacts and their digital credential/badge will submitted to Issuer for issuance of digital credential/badge.
Provider and Issuer on a sampling basis may review Learners’ Artefact to establish that the desired competency has been achieved based on the competency criteria.
A digital credential/badge issuance may be rejected if Provider or Issuer found that there is competency discrepancy for the sampled Learning artefact.
A suitable notification to instructor and learner will be made once a badge is issued or request for issue is rejected. The competency discrepancy of the Learning artefact will be included in the notification. Learners needs to discuss with the instructor on the course of action to take on this matter.
Revocation of Digital Credential
Issuer could revoke a status of Digital Credential/Badge and update the status in IIUM Learners Portfolio Wallet/Platform if any learner’s digital artefact is found to violate related IIUM rules and regulations.
A notification to learner and instructor will be made once a badge is revoked.
Learners are allowed to appeal on the revocation within 3 months from the date of revocation, and all appeals need to be submitted in writing to microcredential@iium.edu.my
The approval of a reinstatement of the Digital Credential/Badge will be dealt with by IIUM on a case-to-case basis.
Reinstatement of Digital Credential
Issuer will reinstate a revoked Digital Credential/Badge once IIUM has approved the appeal or the IIUM has found there is technical issue with the revocation of a Digital/Badge credential.
Issuer will notify learners and instructor on the appeal decision of the digital credential/badge.
Use of IIUM Digital Credential
Users of micro-credential/badge such as company, institution and personal could view the detail of the micro-credential/badge metadata that have been shared by Learners.
Any query and further verification of digital micro-credential could be made by registering for the IIUM Learners Portfolio Wallet/Platform and viewing IIUM Learner’s shared credential environment.
Feedback could also be made within the same environment.
Disclaimer of Warranty
The Content is provided “as-is” and “as available” and to the extent permitted by law without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including, without limitation, any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. The entire risk arising out of use of the Content is borne by You.
In addition, while IIUM attempts to provide good user experience on the Content to You, we do not represent or warrant that (A) the Content will always be secured, error-free or defects (B) The Platform will always be function without delays, disruption or imperfections or (C) that any content, user content, or information You obtain through the Platform will timely or accurate.
Limitation of Liability
While IIUM uses all reasonable best efforts to provide the Services, You hereby acknowledge that some functions of the Platform may not perform as expected or at all. IIUM does not warrant or guarantee that the functions performed by will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free or that any information, data, computer program and/or other Content available at the Platform will be free of any viruses, worms, trojan horses or any other destructive properties, and will not contain any objectionable materials or materials deemed objectionable by some individuals.
We cannot predict when issues might arise through our Platform. Accordingly, our liability shall be limited to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, and under no circumstances we will be liable to You whether indirect for any special, punitive, incidental or consequential damages (including, but not limited to, damages for loss of business profits, business interruption and loss of data/information), or any other damages arising out of the unavailability, use, reliance on, inability to utilise or improper use of the Content, even if advised of the possibility thereof and regardless of the form of action, whether in contract, tort, or otherwise.
Termination
IIUM may terminate or suspend access to our Platform immediately, without prior notice of liability for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation if You breach the terms.
All provisions of the term which by nature should survive termination, including without limitation, ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnity and limitations of liability.
